Basketball Coach – Youth Development Specialist

Position Overview
We are looking for dedicated and skilled basketball coaches to join our team on a freelance basis, with the potential for a permanent collaboration after a 1-month probation period. The role involves coaching young athletes, fostering a positive learning environment, and developing their basketball and life skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Basketball Training: Teach basketball fundamentals, including passing, shooting, dribbling, and defence.
- Player Development: Adapt training to different skill levels and encourage growth.
- Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, demonstrating sportsmanship and ethical behaviour.
- Team Environment: Foster a supportive and structured training atmosphere.
- Safety & Well-being: Ensure a safe and engaging learning experience for all players.
Required Skills & Experience
- Basketball Expertise:
- Playing or Coaching Experience: Strong background in basketball, either as a player or experienced coach.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of basketball fundamentals.
- Tactical Skills: Ability to teach and adapt offensive and defensive strategies.
- Coaching & Pedagogy:
- Strong Communication: Ability to effectively teach and motivate young athletes.
- Patience & Constructive Feedback: Supportive and encouraging coaching style.
- Positive Reinforcement: Promote effort, improvement, and teamwork.
- Discipline & Structure: Maintain a structured yet fun learning environment.
- Personal Qualities:
- Passion for Basketball: Genuine love for the game and youth development.
- Role Model: Strong leadership, ethical behaviour, and positive influence.
- Additional Considerations:
- Age-Appropriate Coaching: Ability to adjust coaching methods for children aged 4–14.
- Growth Mindset: Encourage curiosity, personal exploration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Desirable:
- SQA Level 2 Certificate in Sports Coaching
- SBA Level 2 Coaching Certificate
- Essential:
- Applicants must be a member of the PVG Scheme or willing to apply for membership before starting the role
Contract & Compensation
- Freelance position with potential for permanent collaboration.
- 1-month probation period.
